2015 is a very special year as we celebrate Singapore’s 50 years of Independence and Lunar New Year together at River Hongbao 2015! Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations, Singapore Press Holdings, Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Singapore Tourism Board and People’s Association are proud to jointly present River Hongbao 2015 which will be held once again at Singapore’s iconic The Float @ Marina Bay.
River Hongbao will welcome the Year of the Goat with celebrations over 12 days from 17 February to 28 February 2015. Admission to the event is free.
For 28 consecutive years, this annual iconic event has remained an integral part of Singapore’s Lunar New Year celebrations. This year, we will travel back in time to recollect the precious moments and traditions of our nation’s celebration of Lunar New Year over the past 50 years as part of SG50.
To top things up, we will also be commemorating 25 years of Singapore-China diplomatic ties with our first ever collaboration with the Xinjiang Autonomous Region.
Tightrope Walking by Guinness World Record Holder
The STAR performance of River Hongbao 2015 is none other than the gravity defying aerial tightrope walking act by Adili Wuxor and Abulaiti-Maijun from The Acrobatic troupe of Xinjiang China. As Guinness World Record Holders of numerous tightrope-related stunts, Adili Wuxor and Abulaiti-Maijun will walk across The Float @ Marina Bay for the first time. They will be performing for the first six days. We are sure this breathtaking performance will be a crowd magnet and liven up the atmosphere at River Hongbao 2015.
Performances by Xinjiang and Taiwan Performing Troupes
River Hongbao is partnering with the highly acclaimed Xinjiang Normal University and National Taiwan University of Physical Education and Sport (Dance Department) to present the public with a variety of lively performances.
The northwestern border region of Xinjiang is often lauded as a land of song and dance. Be sure to be charmed by the soul stirring performances presented by the Muqam Troupe of Xinjiang Normal University Music Institute. Visitors will be mesmerized by their traditional Uyghur music and dance. The performances presented by National Taiwan University of Physical Education and Sport (NTUS) will demonstrate the vivid energy, spirit, and passion of Taiwanese people. Be sure to catch their performance as they will only be performing for the first six nights.
Lanterns and God of Fortune
The event will be ablaze with dazzling displays of colourful lanterns, lighting up The Float @ Marina Bay. These lanterns are specially hand-crafted on-site by professional craftsmen and will showcase familiar characters including the 18-metre tall God of Fortune, as well as the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac. This will also be the largest local lantern display with more than 60 eye-catching pieces, including the much anticipated mural of SG50 themed lanterns which will definitely be a focal point.

Visitors will also be treated to an exciting line-up of programmes featuring different themes throughout the 12-day event. The theme for “Family Night” on 21st February is “Family Time; Precious Time”, through which we aim to provide a platform for multi-generational families to spend quality time together at River Hongbao. Following that, two nights of Xinyao sessions on 23rd and 24th February will definitely allow visitors to reminisce about old times, with iconic Xinyao songs and popular television drama theme songs that will tug every Singaporean's heartstrings.
